TUESDAY ACCESSORY
Recommendation: Lavanya, TREND Writer
What used to be the stereotypical outerwear for a lumberjack has now become a fashion statement. Earflap hats are the go to headgear this winter, and their name says it all: they provide a useful ear flap which keeps the wearers ears extremely warm! Easily found in neutral tones with a fur or sheepskin layer on the inside, these hats are also available in wool. Animal ears as well as an embroidered face on the front give earflap hats a cute and fun flair, making them accessible to individuals of all ages.
Hats are available at almost any store and can range in price from $10 to around $35.

"Alexander the Great"
MONDAY MUSE
Designer Sarah Burton is the new creative director at Alexander McQueen. The collection shown above for Vogue US's January 2011 issue, channels McQueen surprisingly well. Especially following McQueen's tragic death in February, Alexander McQueen's designs have become the epitome of fashion design almost unattainably perfect to replicate.
Burton's designs are exquisite. Along with black, the colors in the collection are akin to autumn leaves. From bright yellows to dark browns when the leaves begin to crackle.

Kelly Smith is an Australian fashion illustrator who work has been featured in magazines such as Vogue Australia. Her work has also been used by companies for advertising such as ROC Eyewear. Her illustrations are a beautiful combination of just the right amount of eye popping color and black sketching. The combination makes a mystical effect.
Paper is the first medium that fashion ideas are created into being. Kelly Smith's work is special in that it seems like in moments it will literally peel of the page and come into three dimensional world.

Jambi Style
TUESDAY ACCESSORY
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer
The Turban trend has made its way onto the runway and is beginning to trickle down straight to our streets. The turban first became popular in the Golden Hollywood era in the 1920's then surfaced again in the 1970's. Now, designers such as Giorgio Armani and Jason Wu are featuring turbans in their Fall 2011 Collection.
A turban can be worn in numerous ways. It can be donned with a long sleek dress for a fancy outing, high-waisted pants accompanied with a short lacy top for a casual look, or pair it with a vintage bathing suit allowing you to sunbathe in pure glamor! This accessory is an essential for a classic siren beauty look.
There are different version of the turban such as the Prada one

Convivial Clothing
THURSDAY: DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT
Recommendation: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer
Chinese artist Yang Du is not one the most famous of designers, but that does not mean she is any less imaginative or interesting. She has caught the attention of both John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood (she has been both their assistants). You can put her in the same fashion "genre" as Zhandra Rhodes and Jean Charles de Castelbajac except her collections are much funnier and furrier.
Whether or not you would actually wear her collection, they are still super amusing to look at. Awkwardly large sweaters, hippo dresses and furry robes are the name of the game and it's all fun boys and girls!

Science n' Fashion
UCSD's Best Dressed
Discovered by: Bridgett, TREND Staff Writer
Name: Connie
Major: Chemical Engineering
Minor: Literature
College: Marshall
Year: 5th
Spotted On: Library Walk
Outfit:
Wraparound Sunnies: Macys (Marc Jacobs)
Berry Red Jacket: Nordstrom
Growing Abstract Flowers Scarf: Taiwan "My Aunt gave it to my mom and then I stole it from my mother."
Sweet Sweater Dress: Urban Outfitters
Tights: Urban Outfitters "it's so hard to find opaque tights and Urban has them! I go through a lot of them."
Q: When you go shopping, what appeals to you in buying an item?
A: Comfort appeals to me. I rarely wear jeans because I don't find them to be comfortable! It's funny though, what I wear depends on what classes I am going to, for Lit I usually dress up a bit but not for Engineering because they don't really dress up that much!
When putting an outfit together, matching is sometimes not all that easy, especially if we have an eclectic wardrobe. Connie is perfectly matching from head to toe. Greys and blues and red are the colors that make up her shoes, jacket, scarf and well, just about everything. The color block on the back of the dress is an especially sweet matching surprise.
Just feeling polished can help sweeten your attitude to a much more positive disposition (which is especially helpful during finals!)
